    Description

This is a "what-is-it".  I got it from an elderly gentleman who said it came from a local railway company and was used to turn a water valve - the open end slides on the valve - when you turn it using the long T handle the water comes through the open end and the flow is moderated by the  leather flap over the opening.  Sounds reasonable but I have never seen one and cannot find another example anywhere online.  It is all hand carved from one piece of ash which is impressive all by itself.  I am a wood carver and to make this thing would have taken some time and considerable skill.  It would make a great conversation piece.  Stands 19" tall and is 2 1/2" across the open end. A very interesting one of a kind piece.
